Stylish and Comfortable Shoes for Women: POE Footwear {Review & Giveaway} | Thanks, Mail Carrier

Stylish and Comfortable Shoes for Women: POE Footwear {Review & Giveaway} "

Thanks, Mail Carrier is hosting a giveaway for POE Footwear, which is sold exclusively on HSN. One winner will win a pair of Kaya Scrunch Ballet Flats. These flats are adorable! I would love to win these...I have the hardest time finding flats that fit. I wear a size 5 and most of these seem to come in size 5 1/2 and up. They suggest you should order a size up for the most comfortable fit, so I think the 5 1/2 would be perfect.

There is a little time left to enter. This giveaway ends April 15th at 11:59pm CST.

You can enter at Thanks, Mail Carrier's blog.

Gluten-Free Goodness

I wanted to share about two of my new favorite Gluten-Free foods and they are both from Trader Joe's.

Soft-Baked Snickerdoodles

All I can say is that these are AMAZING. They are not only gluten free, they are also vegan and free of the 8 common allergens (gluten, wheat, milk, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs or soy). They are incredibly soft and moist, they practically melt in your mouth. I taste molasses in these, which must come from the brown cane sugar they use to sweeten them and they also use fruit juice concentrate. They taste a little different than I remember my mom's homemade snickerdoodles tasting, but they are still really yummy.

Peruvian Chimichurri Rice

We first picked this up for Matt a while back because it looked like something that he would enjoy. When we'd cook it for him, it always smelled and looked really good. His favorite way to eat this is with tortilla chips. At first I wasn't sure if this was gluten free or not because it doesn't have the little symbol on the package, but I saw that on the Trader Joe's website it is listed under the gluten free foods. For me, I was really hesitant to try it at first because even though it is gluten-free, there are times when I am sensitive to other foods as well. But I finally gave in the other night and it was delicious! It is a tad bit spicy, but not too spicy. I can handle a little spice, but have never enjoyed really spicy foods. Mostly I taste the cilantro in it. I cooked up some of the Trader Joe's Jalapeno Chicken Sausage with it, which I also LOVE and it was a really quick and delicious dish!

These are both a must to try whether you eat gluten-free or not.

Spay Surgery Update

So, on Friday Duchess had her surgery. We dropped her off at 9 am and they called us at about 11 am letting us know that she was out of surgery and everything went great. It often takes dogs a while to wake up, so we were asked to call back at 3 pm to see when she would be ready to go home. When we called, they told us we could pick her up at 4:30 and take her home.

When we picked her up, we could tell she was pretty drugged up from the shot of pain medication that they gave her. Her little tail wagged, so we could tell she was excited to see us. Poor thing got sick on the way home and she couldn't keep any water down once we got her home either.
She was pretty out of it. She just laid there on her bed and slept most of the night. We had to carry her upstairs when it was time to put her in her crate. I kept checking her and making sure she was breathing because she was in such a deep sleep.

The next day we started to see a little of her personality coming back. She was starting to be more playful, which we had to stifle a bit because we didn't want her being too active. But she started eating and drinking again and moving around pretty good.

The only thing is that we started noticing a red bruised area above her incision site, which started to spread and get worse over the weekend. It is a really awful looking bruise, so we brought her into the Vet today (Monday) to make sure that it wasn't anything serious. Even he was a little surprised when he saw the bruising. He mentioned that it was a little uncommon, but is basically due to too much activity. The odd part is that we've been really good about trying to keep her from running, jumping, etc. So we just have to keep an eye on it and make sure it isn't causing her any discomfort and watch for any signs of infection.

We're just glad that it is over and done with. She's a tropper though! Here's a picture of her on Saturday napping with the little stuffed cow (which we nicknamed Moo) that we bought her while she was in surgery. Isn't she precious!!

Big Day Tomorrow...

My little (well, maybe not so little anymore) Duchess is getting spayed tomorrow and I'm so nervous for her. She is a little over 10 months old now and we want to make sure that we do it before she is a year old, since there can be an increased risk for certain types of cancer if you wait too long. Part of me doesn't want to spay her at all, but I know that it is the best thing for her.  I just don't want her to have to go through the surgery and be in pain or have any negative reactions.

I know that after being spayed,  most dogs are completely back to normal within a couple days to a couple of weeks. I've done my research and I feel prepared for the most part. But I also am aware that each dog will react differently when it comes to the surgery, medication and healing process. I just hope and pray that the process goes smoothly.

Our Duchess is pretty tough, so I somehow think she'll be just fine and probably back to normal within no time!
